New Blog

Hey guys, I decided to start blogging. I've been bored a lot lately with nothing to do, and I am starting to take poker more seriously, so a blog seemed like a pretty good idea. This first blog will basically just be an intro into me, even though basically no one will read it yet. My names Michael Roderick and I just turned 21 in December. I've been playing poker since I was 16 or 17, and started going to the casino shortly after turning 18. I made some decent online scores around then, but didn't start producing live until after my 21st birthday.

Mid-December was my first trip to Foxwoods, I came in second in the $100 daily tourney for $1500 to get me off to a good start (I should have won, had the guy all in drawing to 2 outs and he rivered me.) In January I made my first 5 figure cash when I chip-chopped the main event of the Turningstone Winter Open (1k buy in, bought in direct) for just under $11,000. After that I was elated, and a bunch of TS friends talked me into going to the Borgata for the WPT prelim events. I went down to Atlantic City for the first time and stayed for 2 weeks. I got my ass handed to me in the prelims (AA < AJ in the $1060 event, all in pf, board 8T4 7 9; KK<22 when the board reads AT6 2 T and the guy next to me mucked K2.) But then I satellited into the Main Event (10k event) for only $240 and turned the buy in into $14,754 in my first major event. My next blog will be about my experiences in the 10k event. But for now I'll end this by just saying that I will hopefully be taking the next step with poker, and that I'm really excited about how my life is turning out. I'm young, have my whole life in front of me, and i'm finally starting to excel in what I want to do. Life is good.
